Dear Faculty and Staff,
We are into our sixth week of school, and fall is in the air. Don’t you love the weather this time of year (except for Friday night in Shallowater)? I want to give you a Facility Update and let you know where we are headed with construction.
We have hired the architects to begin designing Dillman Elementary and Watson Jr. High. They will begin meeting with faculty and staff from those campuses very soon to get your input on what you need in your classroom or area. If you are at these campuses, be thinking about what you really need in your classroom (a Jacuzzi in your room will not make the final list).
If you are at Dillman Elementary or Watson Jr. High, you have probably noticed surveyors out working and measuring things on your campus. The surveyors are measuring the size of the lots, measuring the buildings, locating utility lines, sewer lines, water lines, doing a topographical study of the sites, etc. They are almost finished with their work. The architects will use the survey results to help design the schools.
We will begin advertising this Wednesday for proposals for Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR). “Construction Manager at Risk” is just another term for “Contractor.” However, at this stage, we are just hiring a CMAR to help the architects design Dillman Elementary and Watson Jr. High. We will hire the contractor to actually construct the buildings at a later date.
Attached is a tentative construction timeline for Dillman Elementary and Watson Jr. High. You can see the dates of the plan from beginning to end. This year will mainly be spent planning for the construction of Dillman Elementary and Watson Jr. High. Construction of Watson Jr. High is planned later that Dillman Elementary because the Jr. High is probably contingent on state funding (which we find out about in June, 2007).
If you have any questions about any of this, please contact me.
Have a great week!
Gene Sheets
