Muleshoe ISD

Construction Update

October 31, 2006

At the Board Meeting last night, the Board voted to accept the proposal of Lee Lewis Construction, Inc. to be the Construction Manager at Risk for the Dillman/Jr. High construction project.   Lee Lewis Construction will oversee and build the Dillman and Jr. High additions for a lump sum amount of $385,000.  This fixed fee will include his overhead and profit for the job.  He will help us complete the design phase of the project over the next couple of months as part of that fee.  In February or March, he will give us a “Guaranteed Maximum Price” for the actual construction of the project.  If we approve of this maximum price, we will authorize him to proceed with construction.  His fee will not go up unless we add a major amount of additional building to the original plans.

We have one of the best contractors in the state working on our project in Muleshoe.  Lee Lewis Construction has been ranked in the Top 100 Construction Managers in the nation by Engineering News Record since 1984.  You have probably seen their signs all over Lubbock.  They have done work for many schools.  Some of these include:  Lubbock ISD, Levelland ISD, Frenship ISD, Midland ISD, Andrews ISD, Abilene ISD, San Angelo ISD, Arlington ISD, Plano ISD, and Frisco ISD.

They have built several projects with our architects, MWM Architects.  Some of these include:  Jones AT&T Stadium Expansion, United MarketStreet, Texas Tech Museum, LCU Rip Griffin Center, Marsha Sharp Center, Monterey High School Addition, Coronado High School Addition, Whiteside Elementary School, and Trinity Christian School.

They also built several other well-known projects.  Some of these include the WTA&M Fine Arts Complex, Preston Smith Elementary School addition, Alderson Middle School Renovations, new Jr. High in Levelland, Frenship ISD Tiger Pit and Classroom Addition, Midland Lee High School renovations and additions, Monterey High School renovations and additions, and Texas Tech Student Recreation Center expansion.

We are very fortunate to get one of the best contractors in the state for the lowest price of the contractors who submitted a proposal.  We are very blessed to have Lee Lewis Construction as a partner in our construction project.

Now the gritty, hard work of the construction process begins.  It will be 1 ½ years and literally thousands of decisions before the construction project is completed.  It will be a long process, but I am extremely relieved and thankful that we have such a capable team working on our project.  MWM Architects and Lee Lewis Construction will add invaluable expertise to help us end up with the best quality facilities possible within our budget.

We look forward to Building the Future, One BUILDING at a Time.
